Importer of All Natural and Specialty Greek Foods
The idea for Demeter’s Pantry originated more than three years ago following a chance meeting at a trade show. Over a cup of coffee, we shared our mutual passion for bringing the authentic flavors of Greece and its magnificent cuisine to the United States. Maria remembered her family’s orange and olive groves and the incomparable fruits that they produced. Esther spoke of her marriage into a Cretan farming family and summers spent on their farm, learning from her mother-in-law the mysteries of Greek cuisine.
As we talked we realized that our former business experiences, our common backgrounds in Greece, and similar business aspirations had prepared us to create a company that would put authentic Greek food on the tables and in hearts of Americans. The result of this and subsequent conversations was the merger of our two companies, Taste of Crete and Demeter’s Pantry, in 2007 to form Demeter’s Pantry LLC.
Our Mission
Demeter’s Pantry is a specialty food company working to promote authentic Greek cuisine in the United States and help preserve traditional methods of production in Greece. Through Demeter’s Pantry, we import products from some of the best artisanal and organic producers in Greece. We also use many of these same high quality products to make in the United States our own products based on traditional recipes that we learned in our families’ kitchens in Greece.
We form close partnerships with our suppliers in Greece, working with them to develop well-designed marketing campaigns to ensure that their products succeed in the United States. Committed to rural development in Greece, we subscribe to the principles of fair trade and ensure that our partners receive fair prices for their products.
To allow American consumers to enjoy the full range of the Greek cuisine, Demeter’s Pantry has developed two in-house brands. Under Taste of Crete™ and The Greek Table™ , we provide a window into the high quality everyday food experiences – rich oils, tasty cookies, and delicious fresh pre-prepared meals – that characterize Greek life.

Demeter’s Pantry is named after the ancient Greek goddess Demeter (Dimitra in Greek). According to Greek mythology, Demeter was the goddess of agriculture. She taught men how to make flour and women how to make bread. For us, she symbolizes a tradition on family farms in Greece of producing natural, healthful foods, a tradition that stretches back across 30 centuries, a tradition that we know you will enjoy.
